Best Torrent Sites for Downloading Your Movies, Music, and More

1. The Pirate Bay

Arguably the world's best torrent sites. Piratbay created this website in 2003–a Swedish think tank that makes it the oldest website on this list. It is also one of the oldest torrent sites on the internet and has been through many seizures and shut downs of domain only to re-emerge under a new web address or domain name each time.

Police raided the company's headquarters in Sweden in December 2014 in which several of their computers and facilities were confiscated, resulting in The Pirate Bay going offline around this time along with several other file sharing sites. Yet just as it had done so many times before, on January 31, 2015, the website survived again and returned with a phoenix logo symbolizing that it had risen from the ashes.

Millions of files are available in the Pirate Bay database to classify files submitted by authorized users using a "Skull" method. On the website, users have various colored skulls shown next to their names. And color represents a different rank or membership class;

  • Green Skull–these are granted to VIPs or users who have exchanged secure and high quality torrent files with unwavering consistency over a long period of time.
  • Pink Skull–conferred on trustworthy and checked uploaders. The website's administrators and moderators trust these uploaders to share and upload stable and functioning files on the internet.
  • Blue Skull–given to the most important "front liners" on the website which helped to keep it safe from fake files, spam, malware and child pornography. They were also named "helpers" and represented the administrators as some form of assistants. As of February 2015 Helpers were removed from the website.

2. RARBG

RARBG was established in 2008 and now operates under multiple domains. It specializes in posting video releases of high quality but also has other files such as music and games. In December 2008, due to immense pressure from BREIN (the Netherlands' anti-piracy organization), RARBG was forced to shut down for a week.

Many countries including the UAE, England, Portugal, Denmark, Australia, Ireland and Finland have also blocked access to this famous torrenting site. It averaged more than 300,000 visitors per day at its peak in 2015. Registration at the website is currently closed as of this writing but users can still access torrent files from it.

3. 1337X

Established in 2007, this website is specialized in providing users with magnet links and torrent files that can be used for P2P (peer-to-peer) sharing of files. It was ranked 3rd most popular torrent site on the web in 2018. After the shutdown of Kickass Torrents it reached its peak of popularity. His website also underwent an esthetic redesign and introduced new features.

Google has prohibited the website from appearing on its results pages, meaning that it will never show up when one searches through the Google search engine for it. The ban was put in place in 2015 after Feelgood Entertainment filed a complaint. 1337X switched from its old".pl" domain to".to" in October 2015. This was partially done to avoid the ban, since the site can still be accessed by manually entering its address bar.

In view of the possible closing of the site, some users have claimed it as an alternative to The Pirate Bay.

4. Torrentz2

This is the unofficial clone that was shut down from the original Torrentz domain in August 2016. It originally indexed a total of 60 million torrent files during its launch. The original Torrentz platform was the meta-search engine of BitTorrent. It was run by a user named Flippy, who indexed torrent files on the internet from various popular torrent sites.

Torrentz also compiled specific trackers for each torrent, in addition to indexing the files, which were not originally present in the original torrent site. This allowed the load to be picked up by other trackers if the default tracker was down. Torrentz was the 2nd most popular online torrent site in 2012.

His unofficial version, Torrentz2, has copied everything from the original, including its minimalist gui.

5. Limetorrents

Founded in 2009, Limetorrents functions more as a torrent search engine and directory than host. It does not host any files, but it allows users to find connections to torrent files on other websites. Limetorrents is family friendly, unlike other torrent sites, and does not allow users to submit or check for adult or pornographic materials.

In case some of your other favorite torrent sites are down it can serve as a decent alternative. The user interface is intuitive enough and many of the torrents come from reputable trackers. The platform isn't without its drawbacks, however, as low seed numbers and poor torrent safety remain problems for Limetorrents.

6. Torlock

Users looking to browse anime and e-books of high quality would love Torlock. The site also has plenty of music torrents, in addition to anime and e-books. The interface is clean and intuitive, and also has a list of the top 100 most popular torrent sites to help users find the best content. Some of the site's content is much more difficult to find in other trackers, but users are more likely to find plenty of common torrent downloads here too. To be exact, more than 4.8 million files are available from Torlock.

One big problem users may have with the web is the sheer number of advertisements and pop-ups that appear frequently when they click on something.

7. Kickass Torrents

The current version of this site is a revival of the original Kickass Torrents created by some of the former members of staff at KAT. It comes complete with predecessor's features and looks. The original website was created in 2008, and according to Alexa rankings by November 2014 it had become the most visited torrent sites on the internet. Just consider how popular a torrent site has to be to overtake The Pirate Bay.

KAT made many modifications to the domain name and did so frequently every six months to avoid being caught. At the behest of the MPAA, it was delisted from Google in 2013 and in 2014 was banned in several other countries. In July 2016, the United States government confiscated its territory causing KAT to go offline. Nonetheless, in December 2016, former site staff members would be reviving it under a new address.

8. YTS.AM

This torrent platform is dedicated exclusively to movies. It has a nice interface, and several great movie torrent downloads to choose from, making it a movie enthusiasts favorite destination. The tremendous benefit that YTS.AM has over other torrent sites is how quick it is on the bandwidth of users. It is the spiritual successor of the YTS and YIFI party that emerged. Because of their high quality downloads of the latest Hollywood flicks and TV shows, YIFY's torrents became popular among movie geeks.

Those who expect to find other material here may want to look elsewhere, however, as YTS.AM offers only movies and nothing more. So, don't expect this website to find any games, songs, or other forms of downloads.

9. Torrent Downloads

Since 2007, Torrent Downloads has been around, and houses over 16 million torrents. It has everything you're looking for, from games, movies to e-books all the way. It is currently outlawed in the UK. The website has a very simple interface and is for the most part easy enough to navigate around in. The advanced search option allows users to filter their searches so they can locate their files more quickly. It also lets users rate files and leave comments on them to help lower the website's number of fakes. This is one of the best torrent websites out there in terms of variety and price downloads.

10. EZTV

If you're looking for the latest episodes of your favorite television shows, then this is the site you want to visit. EZTV is the best Torrent sites to download television shows. Founded in 2005, it passed through a rough patch in 2015 when the site dropped due to a "hostile takeover," but it has since stabilized and is under new management.

Everything you can find on this platform from reality shows, hit TV series and even NASCAR races. The gui may look like it belongs to in 2008, but it's easy to use and it's very basic. "If it's not fixed, don't repair it," as the old saying goes.
